Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP - Translation

Renowned international law firm Weil Gotshal required review and translation of over 3,000,000 words in less than two weeks. Comprising six different languages, the documents would need to be translated into English and delivered in both hardcopy and electronic form, while still maintaining the highest level of accuracy. Leveraging our global resources, TLS delivered a comprehensive solution to the client, providing on-site document review and reprographics services and delivering all the required translations ahead of schedule. The project was a resounding success, and the firm continues to turn to TLS for its multilingual legal support needs.

The Client

Originally founded in New York City in 1931, Weil, Gotshal & Manges is one of the largest and most highly regarded law firms in the world. With over 1,300 lawyers and annual revenues in excess of 1.7 billion, Weil Gotshal ranks among the top ten highest earning firms worldwide. Consistently recognized by clients, the media, and professional commentators as a top tier firm, especially in the areas of intellectual property and corporate law, Weil Gotshal's one-firm approach ensures that its attorneys and personnel work seamlessly together to handle the most complex legal matters.

The Challenge

With over 20 offices around the world, Weil regularly handles corporate cases for clients across various countries and languages. For this project, Weil was working on a large-scale matter for their client, a world leader in the communications and entertainment industry. The client required the review and translation into English of over 3,000,000 words in less than two weeks. The documents, which were primarily in German, were also interspersed with Swedish, French, Danish, Finnish, and Italian, which would make the process significantly more challenging and complex. In addition, Weil Gotshal required both printed hardcopies of the translations as well as electronic versions that could be uploaded into their Concordance database. Finally, the highest level of accuracy would need to be maintained in order for the translations to stand up to the stringent legal standards of the court.

The Solution
With a demonstrated history of completing high-volume translations under tight deadlines, TransPerfect Legal Solutions (TLS) has a reputation for delivering the highest quality of work under even the shortest turnarounds. For this matter, TLS quickly established a team of project managers who were available 24/7 to oversee every aspect of the project. This team immediately got to work assigning qualified translators to complete the on-site document review and translation work for all six required languages. In addition to being native speakers of the target languages, each of these linguists had been rigorously tested for expertise in the subject matter at hand.

Leveraging our vast global resources and several of our worldwide production hubs, TLS was able to work around the clock to deliver the translations in record time without sacrificing quality or accuracy. We also established a customized delivery schedule and file organization system for Weil that further streamlined the submission, review, and delivery process. While TLS's document management specialists printed out hardcopy versions of each completed translation, our technology team converted the translated Word files into .TIF form so that they could be uploaded directly into Weil's Concordance database for review by the firm's attorneys. Throughout the project, TLS completed the translations on a rolling basis, delivering the English documents to Weil as soon as the translations were complete.
